Lenovo ThinkPad W540 – Great for your Musical Talents

Lenovo ThinkPad W540

The impressive Lenovo ThinkPad W540 is more than just a laptop computer – This beast is more like a mobile production studio.  This power house of a machine would be very useful for intensive graphics arts work, photo-shopping, or video editing and music production.  This awesome laptop features a very fast solid-state drive (SSD), Intel Core i7 processor, and a separate and discrete Nvidia Quadro K1100M graphics processor.  Gamers just love this powerful machine, having a great combination of power processors both for CPU intensive work, as well as graphics, just in case you ever need it.  But because gamers can run the latest graphics and processor intensive applications on this machine, then I have no hesitation in recommending it for all lovers of musical production.

Benefits of the Lenovo ThinkPad W540

The biggest benefit of this laptop is that it is very portable for a 15.6 inch workstation.  So considering the horsepower you can get in this package, it is one of the thinnest and lightest machines in this range.  The best part is that it does not lack anything in terms of processing power, clock speed, and sturdiness.  The Lenovo ThinkPad W540 will be able to handle all of your musical productions, as well as whatever graphics processing you want to do at the same time.  The powerful Intel i7-4800MQ Quad core Processor will easily be able to handle whatever software applications you choose to run, and do it with blazing fast clock speed.  It will also be able to run heavy duty graphics applications, and you also get the ThinkPad quality renowned reliability.  All of this means you will be able to impress your friends with your tech savvy compositions, and you can take it wherever your musical talent takes you.

Other Features

True to the traditions of the original blueprint of the IBM ThinkPad range, Lenovo have retained the design of the W540 to be just like a traditional ThinkPad. It measures just more than 1 inch thick and weighs around 2.5kg. The keyboard is solid, with gently scalloped keys that give you that nice ergonomically designed feeling – which means it has been designed for user convenience.  Just to further illustrate the point, the keyboard is backlit with full numeric keypad and also has a very large track pad with a pointing stick to make your life even easier.

Battery life is more than adequate, with approximately 6 hours before needing a recharge, which is not as good as the ultrabooks, but for this powerful work horse, 6 hours will certainly give you the freedom to take your music on the road with you.

The issue with battery life is that the bigger the engine you buy with this laptop, generally will come at the cost of shorter battery life.  What I mean by this is that we really need the fantastic Intel i7-4800MQ processor to enable the grunt to get the job done, but the battery life is not going to last as long as some of the Ultrabooks which have slightly less front end power, but have a battery life up to around 9 hours.  I know what I would prefer – more power!  At least with the Lenovo ThinkPad W540 you are getting heaps of processing power, as well as a reasonable battery life, which is more than enough to get to the next jam session and home again.  If you have a need for speed, then I am sure the sheer output horsepower of the W540 is more than worth the money, and if you need to be away from home for any greater length of time, you just need to find a power outlet to keep you going longer.

Color and Graphics

Now I am not sure if you need this next feature, but you might come to appreciate the benefit for video editing.  The unique feature of the Lenovo ThinkPad W540 is the integrated X-Rite Pantone color calibrator.

Just in case you are visually discerning and want the very best video quality, this machine offers a self-calibrating 3K screen, which is important to keep the integrity of the color range.

Built for serious graphical clarity, this machine provides the most accurate color range using a camera built into the palm rest to view and adjust the color balance on the laptop display. This is a serious benefit if you wish to achieve true color clarity for your photography or video projects.  Maybe you don’t need it now, but if you venture into video clip editing, then this machine will keep on providing benefits as you take on new projects.

Though not a system designed for any specific application, the Lenovo ThinkPad W540 is a great all rounder.  It is more than capable of handling your favorite music production applications, or any other processor intensive software, as the W540 is truly a multimedia power house.

Summary

The Lenovo ThinkPad W540 is a power house of laptop engineering and offers you the best of everything.  It provides maximum power and awesome performance whilst at the same time offers stunning clarity and excellent display via its self color calibrating screen. It will easily run your choice of music production applications or software, and enable you to process as many tracks that you can record and throw at it at the same time.  Its battery life and performance exceed the expectations of most mobile workstations with this extreme level of output, and better still for those who stay loyal to the IBM blueprint, the Lenovo W540 ThinkPad retains all the benefits of a traditional ThinkPad laptop.
