One of the most powerful 14 inch Ultrabooks yet, the EliteBook 840 G1 is just 0.8 inches thick and weighs just 3.5 pounds. Inside the solid and sturdy frame is an Intel Core i5 4300U processor along with a 4 GB DDRL3 SDRAM, which drives not only the internals, but provides clarity via the 14 inch LED-backlit HD SVA anti-glare display. That means the Core processor is not bound up trying to run all the ancillaries, and is totally focused on providing you the fastest processing time for your labour intensive tasks such as music production and provides ample power for any number of tasks you may wish to throw at it – all at the same time!

The HP EliteBook 840 G1 j2l62ut is a high end laptop option with a bit of a twist. Instead of coming pre-loaded with the now common Windows 8 or 8.1 operating system, HP has instead decided to stick with the older but still very popular Windows 7 on this device. For many who don’t want to make the jump to Windows 8 which is a much different look compared to Windows 7 this provides a very powerful option. We will checkout some of the benefits and downsides to this HP model and see just how well it stacks up.
HP makes great mobile laptops and notebooks, and is certainly a well known brand. This HP Elitebook 840 G1 has all the required specifications of value, robustness, design, long-lasting and overall capability that we alll like in a machine. For example, the HP keyboards and touchpads seem to have the best “touch” and the right strength for the average user. If you want a cool, sexy, ultrabook, then maybe this is not that type of product. This is a good, solid, notebook computer built to last. Sure you could carry it around in a backpack (slightly heavier than a ultrabook), or use at home as your main computer. It is fast enough with the iCore 5 Intel processor, but an SSD from Intel is a great upgrade.
No lack of power on the HP EliteBook 840 G1 j2l62ut starting with the high end Intel Core i5-4300U processor. This processor offers top of the line performance as well as a nice little feature called Turbo Boost. Turbo Boost technology allows the processor to run at higher speeds when doing high end tasks but lower speeds when not to help preserve battery life.
With most new laptops now providing at least 1 USB port that runs on the newer and faster 3.0 technology HP has taken it a step further and made all 4 ports USB 3.0. We haven’t seen many laptops hit the market yet that provide this many options that run on USB 3.0.
The 256 GB SSD hard drive helps give this laptop an extra boost when it comes to performance as well as helping to conserve battery life due to the fact it has no moving parts unlike SATA hard drives. All of this storage space and super connectivity means you can go for broke with music production, or video editing, or working with large files, because this machine can easily handle more than you can! And that is a nice feeling when you need the extra capability.
No question the HP EliteBook 840 G1 j2l62ut is built for performance and HP has covered this very well with this device. We had one concern about the total weight of the device but if you are not a highly mobile user then this should not have much impact on your purchase decision. The HP EliteBook 840 G1 notebook is ultra-productive in and out of the office. Work with confidence thanks to the proven technologies and security, performance and nice to have features that will meet all your music production requirements.
